This year, my blog and I
Happy New Year! A new year brings a chance to revisit the things we once cherished but may have forgotten. I started this blog a year ago, unsure of where it would lead or what role it would play in my life. One thing is certain: I truly enjoy this. Another truth is that I want to continue, whether it’s once a month or four times a year. Whenever inspiration strikes, I relish the opportunity to share my journey.
Reflecting on my blogging process with a better understanding of how a neurotypical brain functions, I dove in full force, hyperfocused, and planned months ahead, only to let it fade as life took over. Life with a family gets busy, and this was pushed to the side. However, I learned a lot about myself and even made adjustments in my life. It encouraged me to focus on the positives rather than the negatives and to become more in tune with who I am and what I can achieve with my own superhero ADHD powers.
This year the purpose of this blog has become a little clearer, and I am ready to create some goals that will bring purpose to my life years down the road.
Family, my experiences, and customs
In keeping with the theme of this blog, I’d like to share what my husband and I have been doing for years. We’ve been together for over 17 years, and for many of those years, we kick off the new year by writing down our goals, setting intentions, and working towards achieving them. I must admit that not all of our goals are fulfilled. However, the great part is that years later, I can revisit these goals saved in Word documents and reflect on where we were, what we aimed for, and how far we’ve come in 1, 5, or even 10 years.
Now that my kids are older, I have started doing that with them. Little goals like “learn how to cook spaghetti” or “become a gymnast” are, for us, a cool way to see not only what they need from us but also what they are truly passionate about. My hope is that in 10, 20, or 30 years, they will look back at these goals and not only continue to uphold them every year as a tradition but also see how they have evolved and grown.
